iTherm Thermal Trending Technology

Thermal inspection is internationally recognised as the best method of identifying potential failure caused by poor terminations and over loaded components, cabling and busbars.

Traditionally thermal inspection has been carried out on a point in time basis, leaving much of the operating period completely unrecorded and unmonitored.

Mardix have therefore launched Mardix iTherm for continuous monitoring, thermal trending and alarming in a Power Management System.

Employing ExerTherm components, Mardix iTherm receives a continuous flow of data from InfraRed (IR) sensors and cable sensors monitoring key busbar terminations and critical cable terminations respectively.

Integrated into Mardix’s Power Management System (PMS) the sensor data is displayed and logged through the PMS software allowing users to remotely monitor and trend their switchgear’s thermal characteristics in conjunction with their power loadings and energy consumption.

Through internal thermal monitoring of switchgear on a continuous 24Hr basis, the technology detects the most common causes of power outages and delivers many benefits when used in conjunction with point in time measurements through thermal imaging.

Mardix are now incorporating iTherm in intelligent switchgear solutions and on legacy equipment through retrofit installations, both of which enable continuous monitoring of switchgear in critical power environments.

iTherm for data centres

iTherm has already been used to great effect by large data centre operators and key financial institutions, who wish to preserve the substantial investment they’ve made in their critical power infrastructures. The initial investment is recovered in the first 1-3 years of operation.
